In September, ex-DHS student and Plumber at Aotea Plumbing and Drainage, Sam Templeton, came in to talk to our Gateway and Work Experience students.
Sam was joined by Bronwyn Rees, who supports apprentices through Skills Trades Training. Sam and Bronwyn spoke to students about the trades (specifically Plumbing and Electrical), apprenticeships, what to expect on the job and the "pros" of working while gaining your qualifications. The information provided was not only informative but very timely for our young people who are making some big decisions about "what comes next". We are very appreciative to Sam and Bronwyn for giving up their time and coming to see us. Sam mentioned that Aotea may have some opportunities for young people interested in plumbing and drainlaying so if this sounds like you - get in touch with Rory McLellan. If you are thinking that you may be interested in a different route of study have a look at Skills Trades Training and the incredible set up they have in Dunedin - https://skillstrades.co.nz/.
