As Head of Faculty and Careers Advisor, Ms. Laura Boulton works with students to explore the full spectrum of post-school possibilities. For our academic learners, she provides guidance on navigating tertiary entry requirements, mapping pathways, and crafting competitive scholarship and tertiary applications. She also assists with course counselling to ensure students’ current subject choices align with their future goals.
Alongside this academic guidance, the department — assisted by Pathways Administrator, Mrs. Kirsty McEnteer — facilitates practical learning through the Gateway/Work Experience programme, the Breen TradeBase building project, and the Otago Polytechnic Trades Academy. Whether a student is aiming for a PhD, a trade apprenticeship, or immediate employment, we provide the real-world experience and NCEA credits needed to succeed.
We also facilitate enrolment in STAR (Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource) courses through a variety of providers, ensuring our students have access to specialised industry training. The Careers and Transition Education Department is here to bridge the gap between school and the wider community.
Get in Touch: All students are able to request a career counselling session. Students can make an appointment by calling in to see Mrs. McEnteer in the Careers Office, or by sending her an email at [email protected]. Parents/caregivers can also email the team to make an appointment time for their child and/or themselves.
