International Student Report Dunstan High School Term 2 2026

At the end of Term 2 we farewelled Maria-Theresia, Katharina and Zoe. It is exciting to see how they have flourished and become part of the school and local community in the three terms they have been at Dunstan High School.

Both Katharina and Maria Theresia have spent many hours at rowing training on and off the water. What a shock for them to arrive from the German summer rowing season to having to put their feet in Lake Dunstan to go out on the boat in the cold winter months when they first arrived.

Katharina’s highlight was the Mt Cook climbing trip with the 2025 Year 13 class. We were so excited to see her achievements at Club Nationals at Karapiro with the DARC rowing club and most recently her Maardi Cup win alongside Bella Breen. Katharina and Bella have been nominated for an award at the Central Otago Sports awards.

Maria Theresia took advantage of every opportunity given to her. Including Stewart Island Duke of Edinburgh camp, Leadership Camp and Alps to Ocean with Yr 12 Outdoor Education.

Zoe joined the chorus of Grease within days of arriving from Germany. She enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to meet other students in the production. Outdoor Education activities pushed Zoe out of her comfort zone. Her host parents also took her on many exciting 4 Wheel Drive outings around Otago.

We have loved getting to know these students and wish them well for their return to Germany and hope to see them again.

Chris and Henry have embraced life in New Zealand. We are looking forward to seeing them perform in the upcoming school production of Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death. They have been on many trips exploring the region with their host family including Lake Alta - Remarkables, Orokanui Ecosanctuary & Milford Sound.

Alina has had a trip to Auckland to watch her host brother compete in the National BMX Championships and been competing herself at many BMX clubs around the South Island.

Yr 12 Biology camp at Titititea at the beginning of Term 1 was a highlight for all of our students. We are grateful for all the staff who encourage and include all of our International Students.

We were invited to dinner at the Hostel to share what life is like living there. Thanks to the staff for a delicious dinner.
