Staff Farewell: Greer Donovan

As we reach the end of Term 1, we prepare to say farewell to Greer Donovan, a staff member who has been a formidable presence here at Dunstan High School.

Greer is an exceptional educator. Her classroom is a place of high standards and academic rigor, yet it is equally defined by her quick wit and infectious laugh. Students thrive under her guidance, enjoying lessons that are as engaging as they are effective. The progress her students make is a testament to her skill and her genuine passion for teaching.

Beyond the classroom, Greer’s impact has been felt across every facet of school life. As the Caples Dean, she has been an unwavering advocate for her students. Her efficiency in the role is well known, but it is her deep care for student wellbeing and success that has truly left a mark. She has navigated the complexities of pastoral care with a balance of firmness and compassion that has helped many of our young people find their way.

Greer’s energy has also extended far beyond the school gates. She has been a stalwart of our Outdoor Education program, and her presence at the Lodge during camps will be sorely missed. On the turf, she has shared her expertise as a dedicated hockey coach and has played a pivotal role in the Central Otago Hockey Association (COHA), fostering a love for the sport in many of our athletes.

At the Hostel, Greer’s vibrant energy and caring manner made her a favourite among the residential students. She created a "home away from home" atmosphere that provided comfort and stability for our boarders, who will undoubtedly miss her guidance and support.

Greer is simply great to be around. Whether she is leading a house meeting or sharing a laugh in the staffroom, her presence lifts the spirits of those around her.

We wish Greer and her partner, Mark, the very best as they depart for their exciting new adventure in Canada. While we are sad to see her go, we are incredibly grateful for the immense contribution she has made to Dunstan High School. We hope to see them back in our part of the world in the future.

Go well, Greer.
