Senior Drama Trip to Christchurch: A Weekend of Theatre and Inspiration

From Friday, 16 May to Sunday, 18 May, ten senior drama students embarked on an exciting cultural journey to Christchurch, accompanied by Nick Meissel and Julie Ruffell.

The trip was designed to deepen students' understanding and appreciation of live performance—and it did just that, with a full schedule of theatrical experiences and behind-the-scenes learning.

Over the course of the weekend, the group attended three diverse performances at the newly built Court Theatre, The End of the Golden Weather and Black Faggot and Putting it Together at the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art (NASDA). These productions offered a dynamic mix of professional and student-led theatre, giving students insight into both the craft of acting and the wider world of stage production.

We were also very fortunate enough to get a tour through the new Court Theatre, which was amazing to see what goes on behind the scenes, and also a tour through NASDA. Thanks goes to Grace from The Court Theatre and Simon Goudie (ex Dunstan Student) for their informative talk, both of them were very passionate about their roles.

The visit also allowed students to explore the evolving Christchurch arts scene, engage in discussion and draw inspiration for their own creative work. Whether they’re planning to pursue drama further or simply wanted to immerse themselves in the performing arts, every student came away with fresh renewed passion for theatre.

A special thanks goes to Nick and Julie for organising and leading such an enriching experience. Trips like these broaden artistic horizons and create lasting memories.
